Default Rota Wheels, Do the pro's outway the con's?

Ok, so I'm looking at getting 18" rims for my car. So far I'm only steered towards Rota. The reason being they are not expensive and they look good. I don't wanna spend more then 1k on 18's. I've heard some bad things about Rota wheels, but I've heard more good things. Another reason I want to get them is because if I ding one up, it's cheap to buy another one. The Takata time attack STI uses Rota's, so they can't be that bad. I'm looking at getting Rota Grids in Hyper black. What do you guys think? Oh and who said accessports are bad? That time attack sti uses one... bye bye GTR. (watch the vid)

I know it's hard to find a rim that suits my car, well the pic is a 06-07 and mines a 04. It'll still look good though.

It's what Rota is about that bothers most people .. knock off wheels rip the whole industry off from companies that are actually trying to further the automotive industry, compared to Rota who just want to rip it off.

Get stock STi BBS wheels.. Beautiful.

The way I look at it, I can buy a set of brand new rims that are just as beautiful if not better looking, or I can buy a used set of bbs' for the same price with probably minor curb rash. What if I dinged up one of the bbs' so bad I needed a new one? You know how hard it'll be for me to find a single stock sti bbs rim? I've never hit a curb before, but I'm just saying.

To my knowlege...YEARS ago Rota used to have quality problems (rims breaking ect) but I haven't heard anything bad about their recent product.

They look great and the price is right. do it.

The cons do not outweigh the pros; they are worth it for sure.

LOL those pics are awesome, but do you think that a 3000 dollar set of rims would still be able to stand the abuse of Thunder Bay Pot holes?

Id much rather crack a 1000 dollar set of rims then bend a 3000 dollar set..

completely agree with quality shit. if your gonna be driving like your rims are a 2 mnths old infant buy the cheap ones, ur gonna baby them anyways and if ur gonna drive the shit outta them, buy the cheap ones, ur gonna have to replace one, one day anyways.

100 bucks says i can find just as many pics of bbs or volks broken from shitty driving and shitty roads. The rims are only gonna last as long as you are nice to them, the pictures dont show what they were doing just before the break. if a rota let go on a smooth hwy for no reason i would worry but after hitting something a pot hole or curb or speed bump you cant really blame the rim with you have a 17 or 18 with 40 35 series rubber on it there isnt much to save the rim from alot of force.

Yup I'm sure it uses them, he's sponsored by wheeldude.com and wheeldude only sells Rota's for the most part. The car might have ran other rims before, but as far as I know is now only using Rotas.

Exactly my thoughts. I read on the nasioc.com forum that the reason you hear alot about Rota's breaking, is because ALOT of ppl buy Rota's then any other aftermarket brand. Why would someone buy the same looking rims for 3000 when they can buy them for 1000? There's just more ppl using Rota's, therefore your gonna hear more about them.

I have seen volks and enkei RPF1 in the same condition as those rota wheels. Its from excessive heat build up from braking and hairline cracks forming. In fact the one you posted that is black from in inside is an RPF1. You will be fine with rotas.

of course you wouldn't its not your money, everyone would "hypothetically" buy the expensive set. I say buy them, they look the shit, and just remember those pictures before u go rally'n ur car down some curvy roads....simple as that.

if it wasnt my money? how old are you....... sounds like something a 12 year old would say.

if it wasn't my money then I wouldn't care what I got because I wouldn't have to pay for it. If I were buying rims for my car I would not go with knock offs. I wouldn't want to waste my own money If there are two things Ive learnt while modding my car its:

1. You gotta pay to play
2. Don't skimp out on mod for your car. You will pay for it later

I bought a knockoff front lip for my car. I would have gladly payed $750 instead of $200 now to avoid the problems I had with it. I learnt my lesson and now its go big or go home for me. If I know Matt he will go with Rotas but I just don't want to see his car get fucked because of them. Even with a slight chance of them blowing up while driving in traffic I would rather be safe than sorry.

ritchie added 17 Minutes and 15 Seconds later...

also think about this. you can always sell the rims at a later date anyway for a minimal loss. If they are well taken care of then you usually rims sell for almost the same amount as they were bought for except they come with tires.
