Hey guys, so I have just purchased a new ride(will be posting pics as soon as its done paint job).
I called my insurance company and told them to put it on, and they said because of the type of car they require a "modification" inspection. I asked them what qualifies as a modification, and they said anything that differs from manufacturers specifications. THey said if the car had aftermarket rims or aftermarket gauges it would not pass and they could not cover me. The car came with a triple gauge pod and some rims...so obviously i was pissed so i have 30 days to submit for inspection or they can cancel my policy. What insurance companies can you guys refer me to, that would A) either insure modified vehicles or B) Would not require a modification inspection for having gauges in the car... I could rip them out, and put stock rims on it, but the car has lowering springs in it, so i dont feel like tearing them out just to put them back in. Let me know. THanks

Most insurance questionaires only ask whether you have more than $5000 in mods.

just like I tell everyone, IF YOU ARE A GRADUATE OF CONFEDERATION COLLEGE Johnson Inc. gives confederation alumni a 10% discount on insurance rates and premiums. I insure my house, and truck through them and they always give me good service, I used them with my old "civic" and that had lots of mods and they never asked anything abut me modify'n it when I was putting insurance on it.

I think you have beef with Meloche Monnex Mike, but they've never had a problem insuring me.. Plus they do the same discounts like Johnson's..
Johnson's actually wouldn't insure me because I had a G2 - TD was like oh sure not a problem.. They asked for pictures of my truck but never gave me a place to send them, and that was like 4 months ago.. They also insured my integra with "mods" - huge ass exhaust, bright red "racing" seats, bunch of colourful shit in the engine bay.. They didn't care at all.

Insurance is for chumps
![]() Insuring anything that qualifies as a *sport compact* is always a bitch... I have been through 4 insurance companies since I've owned the civic... mostly because they have decided for no good reason to raise my rates even tho I have a clean driving record. I guess i'll stop rambling off topic here... I have always dealt through an insurance broker. Having lots of options is a good thing!

i think some people are missing the point by saying im with them or im with so and so and they never give me hastle..
there giving mike hastle because of the type of car it is. its a commenly souped up car that can be made fast and has lots of aftermarket support. i mean obviously there not going to give you hastle if your driving a 91 s10 or something... |

Try Kowal, they're in Central across from persian man. They ask for pictures but they dont seem to care about mods. Prices are descent as well.

Co-operators is a decent outfit...
i asked about modifications and they stated that unless you have the vehicle appraised with aftermarket mods included, they blue-book it. sort of a "if you don't care, we don't care". and they just assume it's stock and that you'll out-of-pocket any mods. same goes for bodykits. "you break it, you buy it." makes sense from a cost point of view. Ebay vs dealership? OEM vs scrap yard mock-up? i wouldn't want that kind of headache...some sixteen year old slaps a badly-fit ebay FRP bumper on mommy's volvo wagon and runs it into a pole? **** 'em. Also, they told me that they do have risk categories for vehicle theft, but that it's a pretty standard practice, and that it's factored into any quote or policy. Basically, insurance for a '92 Honda Civic with 20K worth of mods will run you more than a rusty hand-bombed Datsun POS with a badly warped hood....but which are people more likely to steal at 3am in a bad neighborhood? Last edited by neilguy : July 19th, 2010 at 01:20 PM. Reason: ...i'd go for the Datsun but whatever... |

So I called meloche monnex or whatever they are today and changed over to them. Even with my accident which i had so called accident forgiveness with TD GENERAL, it was still cheaper to bring everything over, no penalties and NO INSPECTIONS!!!
So car is on the road starting wednesday after it gets out of paint booth.
