I can agree with some of what your saying, skimping out on parts sometimes isnt the best way to go about things, but at the same time, a set of VOLK 19" rims with tires brand new is going to run you about 3500-5500 dollars USD. A set of ROTA's with tires about 1500-2000. If you break a rota one, you can replace it, if you crack one you can replace it and not cost you 1000 dollars a rim.

If i lived in california, florida, anywhere in teh states where its nice 90% of the time, I would buy the expensive set. If i didnt care about money, id buy the expensive set, but in thunder bay i've cracked and bent a stock 16" aluminum with 60 series rubber before, and I've separated 3 tires already running 55 series rubber. You have a 35 series tire on a rim around here and doesnt matter if your rim is solid reinforced steel you can still bend it on a pot hole.

IMO buy the rota's spend the extra on performance mods...

if it wasn't my money then I wouldn't care what I got because I wouldn't have to pay for it. If I were buying rims for my car I would not go with knock offs. I wouldn't want to waste my own money If there are two things Ive learnt while modding my car its:

1. You gotta pay to play
2. Don't skimp out on mod for your car. You will pay for it later

I bought a knockoff front lip for my car. I would have gladly payed $750 instead of $200 now to avoid the problems I had with it. I learnt my lesson and now its go big or go home for me. If I know Matt he will go with Rotas but I just don't want to see his car get fucked because of them. Even with a slight chance of them blowing up while driving in traffic I would rather be safe than sorry.

ritchie added 17 Minutes and 15 Seconds later...

also think about this. you can always sell the rims at a later date anyway for a minimal loss. If they are well taken care of then you usually rims sell for almost the same amount as they were bought for except they come with tires.

I mean im with mike on this one, unless you are extremely performance driven and you are buying a name brand rim for the weight savings and durability, i really dont see the point of purchasing expensive name brand rims unless you have the car to go along with the rims. I have been running ebay rims for 4 years on my car and i have hit some nasty potholes and speed bumps and never had an issue and they arnt even rotas they are no name ebay rims. Rims are a great investment if you have a nice car and you want the look that only expensive rims will give you and they will obviously be better quality and the finish will last longer.. But for driving around tbay i would never buy rims that are a small chunk of the cars overall worth, it just doesnt make sense there are better ways to spend that cash

pretty rims are just that, pretty rims, you buy them cause they look nice and distinguish your car from the rest of the crowd. Unless u have the power under the hood to make it worthwhile to buy a lite weight set, and that means more than a cold air intake and an exhaust, or are gonna be driving them so hard that you need to buy a super expensive pair. I ran a set of ADR Sokudo's for year (pretty sure they are knock off) and they were worth every dime I DIDNT pay.

you can get a decent set of rims AND tires for the cost of a good set of rims.

I'm 99.9999421% positive that I'll get Rota's over any other rim, unless I can find an unreal deal on a used pair of nice rims. Maybe if my car was show-car worthy I'd spend the cash on a high end name brand rim. With the money I'm saving on getting Rota's instead of say Volk's, I can easily afford a big turbo and intercooler.

yeh, now that I think about it my opinion on mods is most likely really different from most. to put it in perspective I spent around 2 grand to change the front of my car from stock to........ stock...

an old saying in the sales game:

I think if you just hunt on your vehicle specific forums you can find a good deal.

Thats what I did when i got my 5zigen FN01RC's.

Anyone who knows me knows I abuse my car harder than Ike beat Tina and I live up Onion Lake road to boot!

My rims have lasted for the 2 years without a crack or bend. Plus they are used!

The old saying is still true

If you want them buy them... It is your own preference when everything is said and done... They are nice rims and if you like them and what they have to offer you then I would do it straight up
