There is a guy in thunder bay that wants to buy a truck from me. He is concerned with how hard it will be to get it over the border. Does anyone know what is involved in this type of sale?

that thing is still FS? If he has the paperwork ready, you could alert US Customs Pidgeon River that it's going. There's a 72 hour hold for vehicles leaving the States. Canadian-side, he'll need to declare it, have Daytime Running Lights installed, and pass a safety. But, he would benefit from reading http://tbaec.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=318

my helios jetta is from florida and all we needed was proof of purchase, all of the ownership information, proof from volkswagen that there was no factory recalls that havent been fixed, if there are any recalls that havent been fixed yet they must be fixed before its aloud to cross because once its owned in the other country the dealer will no longer replace it, and my car is older then 15 years old so i didnt need to pass a safety before i crosses. i do that after

Well... after importing the Yukon I found out that after the vehicle is 15 years or older it doesnt need an RIV inspection OR daytime running lights. Just the Form 1 (Fill it out when you get to Canadian Customs) and you would have to notify US Customs (pigeon river) 72 hours before the export. They will make sure there is no leins registered against the vehicle. They will also need to see the sticker on the door to provide them with Manufacture Date. Other than that we needed the title signed to me or my wife, the bill of sale and my licence. At Canadian customs I just paid the tax and got form 1 filled out. Paid the fee for having Air Conditioning and voila... she was home. When I register it I just bring in the form 1 stamped that it is RIV exempt, the title, bill of sale and I can register it
if I want to put it on the road I need a safety and insurance as well.

On anything newer than 95 yes. Because they get inspected at Canadian Tire. The older vehicles dont get inspected at all besides at US Customs for the manufacturers label and then again at your local garage for safety.

This is the truck the brought over Dusty. He had it sent to the border, and then had to get it sent back to have the lift removed.

Start here: http://www.riv.ca/
Pretty much explains everything and even provides you with a checklist of sorts.

I don't know what your quoting here, that truck you posted is at least 30 years too old for that rule to apply. And it really doesn't sit any higher than the factory highboys ford built? What kind of vehicle are we dealing with?

Yah, if the 95 yukon came across without all the RIV hassle and stuff then i'm sure an older truck will have no problems.
